The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited recently announced plans to collaborate with private firms to manage and maintain its refineries located in Kaduna and Warri ¹.
This move, said the management, is expected to increase production and efficiency, as private firms tend to push their operational capacity to maximize profits.
The Warri refinery, located in Delta State, was commissioned in 1978 and has a nameplate distillation capacity of 6,250,000 MTA (125,000 bpd). The Kaduna refinery, commissioned in 1980, has a capacity of 110,000 B/D.
The engagement of private operators, according to the management, is seen as a positive step towards meeting fuel demands and reducing scarcity.
