The Nigerian Basket Ball Federation (NBBF) has been ordered to compulsorily hold her Federation elections in January 2026 to stop a perceived tenure elongation Patmos Media Line can report.
According to impeccable sources, the move by the body supervising all sporting federations and associations in Nigeria, the National Sports Commission was said to stop an alleged attempt by the current NBBF President, Engineer Ahmadu Musa Kida to impose an elongated term by contesting the Federation election for the third time running.
Kida hails from Borno State studied Civil Engineering from ABU Zaria for 1st Degree in 1984; bagged a Post Graduate Diploma in Petroleum Engineering from Institute Francaise du Petrol, (IFP), Paris.
He was elected in June 2017 and his second term was supervised by the Umbrella Basket Ball body in Africa FIBA in Benin City, Edo State on June 31st 2022 but he is believed to be planning an initial elongation to stay in office till October 2026 as against August 2025 given by NSC to all Nigerian Sporting bodies and stake holders hold the opinion that a crafty plan for an extension by any means is unconstitutional.
However, Patmos Media Line hs no record of any open confirmation from the current NBBF President or his Executives to remain in office anyhow. The Current Vice President of NBBF, Babatunde Ogunade has persistently said any move to an extension for a 3rd term is absolutely unconstitutional.
Presently, the NBBF is under tongue hammer by lovers of Basketball in Nigeria for losing two games back to back in the ongoing world Men’s Basket Ball qualifier in Tunisia as D’Tigers lost to Tunisia 78-88 and got a shocking bow to lowly rated Guinea yesterday Saturday leaving the encounter with Rwanda this evening of Sunday to a must win game.
The NBBF confraternity said it will take a miracle for D’Tigers to qualify having been called to cam on Thursday, played Tunisia on Friday and Guinea on Saturday.
The NBBF confraternity is also at sea why Nigeria a former African Champion and continental giant has never hosted the highest tournament in Africa, AFRO Basket Ball which holds her 34th edition this year 2025 when Rwanda that debuted into African Basketball in 2007 hosted the 30th tournament in 2021.
Efforts to get Engr. Kida to speak proved abortive as he was said to be deeply involved in the Petroleum and Gas business in Nigeria.
