Veteran filmmaker, Lere Paimo, also known as Eda Onile Ola, has publicly accused the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, and a movie director named Ben Ayoola (aka Ben O Ben) of trying to remake his classic Yoruba film “Ogbori Elemoso” without his permission .
Paimo said the monarch first approached him with a proposal to remake the picture and asked for a cost estimate of about N100 million, later suggesting the budget could be increased and that script changes might be needed.
Hevsaid in October 2025, however, a group identifying themselves as representatives of Fewchore Studio visited his home, claiming they had the Soun’s approval to proceed with the remake and that they did not need Paimo’s consent, offering him a “gift” for the work .
The group transferred N7.5 million into Paimo’s account, which his children called manipulative; he returned the money and his lawyer sent a cease‑and‑desist letter warning the studio not to move forward without his explicit approval .
Despite the warning, the parties allegedly insisted they had royal backing and hinted that legal action would not protect Paimo .
Paimo, who was honoured with the Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR) and the chieftaincy title Are Arobajo of Ogbomoso for the film, described the attempted remake as an effort to strip him of his legacy and deprive his children of the benefits of his work .
He has appealed for intervention from Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, RCCG General Overseer Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the Oyo State police commissioner, and the wider Ogbomoso diaspora to stop what he calls an injustice .
Attempts to obtain comment from the Soun’s spokesperson were unsuccessful.
