The Oyo State Government has dismissed claims that the Federal Government released ₦50 billion to the state following the January 2024 Bodija explosion in Ibadan.
The allegation, made by former Ekiti Governor, Ayo Fayose suggested that President Bola Tinubu approved the fund for Governor Seyi Makinde, but it did not enter state accounts and went unacknowledged.
Oyo State’s Chief Press Secretary, Sulaiman Olanrewaju stated that no such federal grant exists, and there is no official record of ₦50 billion being sent to the state. Similarly, claims that ₦4.5 billion was disbursed specifically to explosion victims are unverified.
The state has provided relief and palliative support in the past, including the ₦8.6 billion SAFER initiative in 2023, but these were state-funded programs.
Oyo State regularly receives ₦10–15 billion monthly from FAAC, and its 2026 budget of ₦892 billion focuses on infrastructure, education, and internally generated revenue.
Both the federal and state governments have not confirmed any ₦50 billion support linked to the Bodija incident, making the claim unsubstantiated.
