A significant shake-up is unfolding within the Nigeria Police Force following the reported removal of Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
Sources within the police hierarchy and the Police Service Commission indicate that no fewer than 29 senior officers, including Deputy Inspectors-General (DIGs) and Assistant Inspectors-General (AIGs), are set to be relieved of their duties in what is described as a far-reaching restructuring of the Force’s leadership.
The out-going IGP resigned his appointment on Tuesday, citing ‘family issues which require his undivided attention’.
Egbetokun is expected to be succeeded by Olatunji Disu, currently serving as Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex in Alagbon, Lagos.
With the new development, all officers that are senior to Disu will have to leave the Force, as it is out of order for them to salute their junior in rank.
The planned exit of 29 top-ranking officers as one of the most extensive leadership overhauls in recent history, signaling a decisive restructuring at the highest levels of the force.
The development could have far-reaching implications for command structure, internal reforms, and ongoing security operations nationwide.
